Jeffrey Toobin, New Yorker staff writer and chief legal analyst for CNN, discusses his latest piece in the February 26th issue of The New Yorker, “The Miss Universe Connection” (online: “Trump’s Miss Universe Gambit”). The piece takes a close look at the 2013 Miss Universe pageant in Moscow and whether or not it developed Trump’s connections to Russian money, business and government. From 1996 to 2015, Trump owned the Miss Universe Organization, which also included the Miss U.S.A. and Miss Teen U.S.A. pageants, and he often staged the pageants in cities where he had other business interests. Toobin probes the larger history of the Miss Universe pageants and Trump’s decades-long preoccupation with Russia. This segment is guest hosted by Arun Venugopal.
