Deborah Meier, MacArthur award–winning educator, reformer and author, and Emily Gasoi, educator and co-founder of Artful Education, join us to discuss their book, These Schools Belong to You and Me: Why We Can't Afford to Abandon Our Public Schools. They argue that "success" in public education should have less to do with preparing students for potential jobs, and more to do with understanding their role in our democracy. Drawing on Meier and Gasoi's combined decades of classroom experience, they reflect on the achievements, failures and challenges they experienced working public schools, and provide solutions for how students can get the most out of their educations.
Event: Deborah Meier and Emily Gasoi will be at Bank Street College of Education (610 West 112th St.) on Tuesday, November 7 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. for a conversation to be moderated by Bank Street President Shael Polakow. Click here for more information.
