Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and bestselling author Glenn Frankel joins us to discuss his new book, High Noon: The Hollywood Blacklist and the Making of an American Classic. He explores how the movie, starring Gary Cooper and Grace Kelly, was produced on a shoestring budget and went onto become a hit. Frankel also looks at the story of its screenwriter, Carl Foreman. Foreman was called to testify before Congress about past ties to the Communist Party, and was eventually blacklisted.
Event: Glenn Frankel will hold a Q&A with Maria Cooper Janis, Gary Cooper's daughter, at Film Forum (209 W. Houston St., between Varick St. and 6th Ave.) following a special Father’s Day screening of "High Noon" on June 18 at 1:30 p.m.
