In April of this year, President Donald Trump signed an executive order directing federal agencies to strengthen current work requirements, or introduce new restrictions, for low-income Americans who receive government assistance. The order calls on agencies to reform their welfare programs "by strengthening existing work requirements for work-capable people and introducing new work requirements when legally permissible."
