Man-made environments are accelerating and changing the evolution of the animals and plants around us. Menno Schilthuizen explores this in his new book Darwin Comes to Town: How the Urban Jungle Drives Evolution. He offers examples of swift-moving natural selection, from lizards in Puerto Rico with feet that grip concrete surfaces, to crows in Japan learning to use traffic to crack nuts.
Schilthuizen will give a talk and signing on April 9 at 7 pm at the Powerhouse Arena (28 Adams Street, Brooklyn).
This segment is guest hosted by Rebecca Carroll.
