The city of New Orleans has recently set up surveillance cameras that officials say will help keep the city safe. But whose safety is being considered? Michael Isaac Stein explores this in his article for The Intercept, “New Orleans Surveillance Program Gives Powerful Tools to a Police Department with a History of Racism and Abuse.” Stein looks at how this system was put in place without any public hearings, how it could undermine residents' rich history of spending time in public spaces, and how it disproportionately targets the city’s black population. This segment is guest hosted by DW Gibson.
