Jonathan Demme was an accomplished director known for making films such as "The Silence of The Lambs," "Philadelphia" and "Neil Young: Heart of Gold." Demme passed away in April, and BAM is celebrating his work with a retrospective titled "Jonathan Demme: Heart of Gold." This is the first retrospective of its kind since Demme’s death. We'll be joined by Gina Duncan, BAM Cinema’s Associate Vice President, and actor/director Paul Lazar. Duncan, a close friend of Demme's, programmed the retrospective and Lazar worked with the director on films like "Philadelphia" and "Married to the Mob." "Jonathan Demme: Heart of Gold" runs from Aug. 4 to Aug. 24 at BAM (30 Lafayette Ave, Brooklyn). BAM will also host screenings of "Married to the Mob" on Saturday, Aug 5 at 6:45 p.m. with Paul Thomas Anderson, Paul Lazar, and Louis Black doing a Q&A following the screening AND "Rachel Getting Married" on Thursday, August 10th at 7:10 p.m. with Jenny Lumet and Bill Irwin in attendance/doing a Q&A following the screening.
