Journalists Danielle Wolffe and Jessica Pishko, special contributors to The Nation, talk about their 2-part investigation into juvenile life without parole, which appears in the July 3 and July 10 edition of The Nation magazine: “Life Without Parole.” The U.S. may be the only country in the world that sentences children to life without parole, but over the past decade the Supreme Court has steadily retreated from the practice, which has triggered a massive, retroactive re-sentencing process. Wolfe and Pishko found that while some states have taken the opportunity to offer inmates more lenient sentences, the outcome has been anything but fair nationwide with clear racial disparities.
