Director Matt O’Neill joins us to discuss his new documentary for Frontline in collaboration with The New York Times called “Life on Parole." He will be joined by The New York Times' national criminal justice editor Shaila Dewan, who worked closely with him on the project and recently published a related article titled  "She's His Rock. His Parole Officer Won't Let Him See Her." The project looks at how parolees struggle to re-acclimate to society after they're released from prison. About 50 percent of parolees in the United States will be sent back to prison. The pieces also explores how one state, Connecticut, is rethinking parole in the hopes of driving down its recidivism rates. "Life on Parole" airs July 18 at 10 p.m. on PBS and online.
