Gig Alert: Elza Soares at Town HallTickets: $45, Show at 8PM.   The grand dame of Brazilian pop, Elza Soares, now 80, has been through a lot. In a career racked by personal tragedy, legendary Brazilian samba singer Elza Soares has persevered as a singular voice for the voiceless, continuing to champion the oppressed. Her latest album, “The Woman at the End of the World,” was recorded with a group of musicians from São Paulo’s “samba sujo” (or “dirty samba”) scene and features Elza's weathered, yet defiant voice -growling, spitting, and soaring- with her strength and resilience over a delicate bed of samba-tronics. The legendary Elza Soares brings her irrepressible voice to Town Hall tonight. NYC-based outfit Forro in the Dark are the openers.
