Gig Alert: Rahim AlHaj trio at David Rubenstein Atrium, Lincoln CenterTickets: Free. 7:30 Performance. Seating is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Letters From Iraq is the latest record by Rahim AlHaj, the Iraqi-American composer and performer on the oud, the Arab lute, an ancestor of the classical guitar. AlHaj's album is a set of pieces, each inspired by an actual letter he received from Iraqi women and youth in that war-torn country. While the music reflects devastation, pain, redemption, there are also moments of consolation, beauty, and hope.
The Iraqi-American composer and oud player Rahim Alhaj performs tonight along with Iranian santour player Sourena Sefati and Palestinian-American percussionist Issa Malluf at the David Rubenstein Atrium at Lincoln Center, in collaboration with Alwan for the Arts.
