Prosecutors in Sweden announced yesterday that they were dropping rape charges against Wikileaks Founder Julian Assange. It’s not clear what the future holds for Mr. Assange, and what will happen when he leaves the Ecuadorian embassy. What we do know is that he has had an outsized role in shaping political events, and the political narrative, in this country. Last week, Leonard spoke with Laura Poitras about her latest documentary, “Risk,” which profiles Julian Assange and the Wikileaks group. So for our Bonus Weekend Podcast, we’ve decided to look back at some of the other important work that Ms. Poitras has produced. Leonard spoke with her in 2014 about “Citizen Four,” her Oscar winning documentary about Edward Snowden. In 2015 she discussed curating “Field of Vision,” a new project that commissions episodic short documentaries. And that same year, Leonard had the opportunity to speak with Julian Assange himself…live from the Ecuadorian Embassy in London.
