Journalist and former NPR science correspondent David Baron joins us to discuss his book, American Eclipse: A Nation's Epic Race to Catch the Shadow of the Moon and Win the Glory of the World. The book tells the true stories of scientists who dashed toward the Rocky Mountains to study a solar eclipse in 1878. To reach their goal, these scientists and astronomers faced train robberies and attacks from Native Americans, among other challenges.
