Journalist and former NPR science correspondent David Baron joins us to discuss his book, American Eclipse: A Nation's Epic Race to Catch the Shadow of the Moon and Win the Glory of the World. The book tells the true stories of scientists who dashed toward the Rocky Mountains to study a solar eclipse in 1878. To reach their goal, these scientists and astronomers faced train robberies and attacks from Native Americans, among other challenges. David Baron will appear as part of the World Science Festival's Saturday Night Lights: Stargazing In Brooklyn Bridge Park event on June 3 at 7 p.m. He will also appear for a talk at the Thomas Edison National Historical Park (211 Main St., West Orange, NJ 07052) on June 11 at 2:30 p.m. Note: Jonathan Capehart guest-hosted this segment of "The Leonard Lopate Show."
