Journalist Jeff Wise explains why it’s becoming more difficult to understand the choices our machines make as we integrate more advanced artificial intelligence into systems like autopilot in airplanes and self-driving cars. Journalist and author Yudhijit Bhattacharjee discusses his new book, which tells the story of an Air Force security specialist who used coded messages to attempt to sell U.S. intelligence and befuddled the F.B.I., in part, because he was dyslexic. Directors Petra Epperlein and Michael Tucker discuss their film, "Karl Marx City." The film follows Epperlein as she goes looking for answers after her father's suicide, and investigates letters accusing him of a secret life as an informant for East Germany's secret police. New York Times reporter Amanda Taub discusses the time she spent in a middle-class, mostly white suburb just outside Berlin, where support for far-right populism is strong. Taub was attempting to understand how the far-right's influence is taking hold across Europe.
