Baz Dreisinger, Mariame Kaba and Derrick Hamilton join us for a panel discussion about the future of mass incarceration, the juvenile justice system, private prisons and prison and bail reform in the U.S. Dr. Baz Dreisinger is an associate professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, author of Incarceration Nations and founder of the Prison-to-College Pipeline. Organizer and educator Mariame Kaba founded Project NIA, and co-founded multiple organizations including the Chicago Freedom School and the Chicago Taskforce on Violence against Girls and Young Women. She is a 2016 Soros Justice Fellow, working to end the criminalization of survivors of violence. Derrick Hamilton, a self-taught jailhouse lawyer, served 21 years in prison after being wrongfully convicted of murder. He was exonerated in January 2015, and now works as a paralegal helping others who say they have been wrongfully convicted.
