George Mitchell served as a Democratic senator from Maine from 1980 to 1995, and Senate majority leader from 1989 to 1995. He was the primary creator of the 1998 Good Friday Agreement, which brokered peace in Northern Ireland. In the first two years of President Obama's administration, he worked to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In, A Path to Peace: A Brief History of Israeli-Palestinian Negotiations and a Way Forward in the Middle East, he discusses those decades, his experiences in the negotiations, and how the conflict might yet be resolved.
